Xbox has officially announced that it will not only be attending this year’s Gamescom, but will also be setting up its “largest booth to date”, while both PlayStation and Nintendo have confirmed that they will not be attending the show.
Yes, only one of the Big Three is scheduled to be in Cologne, which means there will be absolutely no console wars talk during the show. Surely not, right? Well, of course not, but at least there won’t be photos of the Xbox and PlayStation logos facing each other like flags in some dramatic ancient conflict, rather than the occasional corporate tote bag dispute.

“Team Xbox is returning to Gamescom,” the console maker has just announced via a tweet, adding: “Come visit us at our largest booth yet from August 21st-25th!” Hey, at least the tweet didn’t include the exact dimensions of the massive booth, followed by a ‘look, we’re not kidding, it’s bigger than your dad’s shed’.
That’s not all, as Xbox has shared a list of at least some of the Gamescom games “you can expect to see.” Avowed and Ara: History Untold appear to be the most important games announced so far, along with Age of Mythology: Retold, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Diablo Immortal, The Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, Towerborne, and World of War Within, with Xbox stressing that “there are more games coming soon.”

PlayStation, on the other hand, confirmed to Eurogamer today that it will not be attending the show, as it has in past years, having not actually appeared at any Gamescom edition since the pre-pandemic halcyon days of 2019. Nintendo will also not be at Gamescom this year, something it confirmed back in April, which is a bit unusual.
Well, that’s it for the big names at this year’s Gamescom, the next stop on the “here are some games” roller coaster that’s been going on since Not-E3.
