How to get to Unte Ruins

To reach the Unte Ruins, you must find the secret coffin inside the Shadow Dungeon. This is the same route you will need to take to get to the Abyssal Woods area of the Shadow Realm. Your best starting point is therefore the Grace Site “Main Gate Square” inside the Shadow Keep (which will appear after you). I defeated the golden hippopotamus).

Cross the west side of Shadow Keep until you come to an area with rows of flaming boats. On your left there will be a large staircase leading to the Shadow Keep warehouse, but you want to go past it to the east side of this area. Eliminate the militiamen hiding between the boats here, and once the area is clear you will see a corpse holding 1x chicken foot marinated in silver next to a small staircase:

Go down this ladder and enter the hidden passage behind the waterfall. You will then have to go down another ladder. You will see a small storeroom below containing one of the paintings from Shadow of the Erdtree, “Dragon Domain‘. Collect it, then roll against the next illusory wall to reveal another hidden path:

Continue through the newly revealed passage and at the end you will find an ominous stone coffin. Interact with this coffin to climb insideand you will take part in a water cruise on a waterfall.

Once you get out of the coffin, activate the Site of Grace’Castle water trough‘, and you will find the The Unte ruins are right in front of you.

How to enter the Unte Ruins

At first glance, it appears there isn’t much to do in the Unte Ruins, as a large, extinct Furance Golem blocks the entrance. However, there is a way insideand we’ll show you how to do it below.

First, on the left side of the ruins (north) is a small collapsed building whose walls and red-draped roofs can be scaled. You will find 1x Lost Ashes of War And 3x Forge Stone (8) corpses along the way.

Once you reach the end of this path, you will find yourself very close to the extinct Furance Golem. Try as you might, you cannot climb or jump the Furnace Golem to enter the Unte Ruins. This will only cause you to fall back to the ground.

Instead, you need to throw a big furnace pot in the large wicker head of the Furnace Golem. You can learn how to make a large furnace pot by obtaining the Grand Potentate Cookbook (2), which can be found in the Run-Down Traveler’s Rest cabin in Gravesite Plain. The nearest grace site to this location is ‘Greatbridge, North“, so if you don’t already have it, you can quickly go there and collect it before returning to the “Castle Watering Hole” grace site.

To make a large furnace pot, you will need:

  • 1x Mushroom with red flesh
  • 1x Messmer Ember
  • 1x Oven Face

Fortunately, Redflesh Mushrooms are extremely common in the Shadow Realm, and the other two ingredients can be found right here in the Unte Ruins if you don’t already have them. You will find 3x Messmer Ember on a corpse in a building to the right (south) of the ruins, and Furnace Faces are abundant inside the ruined bodies of other Furnace Golems who died here.

Throwing the big furnace pot into the extinguished golem, you actually bring it back to life, and he will come back to life the moment the Hefty Furnace Pot hits him. It is possible to escape directly into the ruins if you call Torrent immediatelybut you can still stay and fight the Furnace Golem and beat it.

Be warned: there is another Furnace Golem that will come out of the water south of the ruins if you approach them. If you don’t want to fight two Furnace Golems at once, we recommend fighting the one in the water first before reviving the one blocking the entrance. Alternatively, if you don’t fight any of them, call Torrent and escape to safety before trying to outrun the Golem in the ruins.

Once inside the ruins, there are two items to collect here. You can get the Stone-sheathed sword from the grave marked on the right, and the spell ‘Incantation’Giant golden bow‘from inside the chapel to inside the treasure chest.

Congratulations! You have successfully entered the Unte Ruins and recovered all of its important items.

Before leaving, don’t forget to collect the Revered Spiritual Ash just behind the ruins (there is a broken wall from which you can escape from the back), which you will find at the back of the cliffs to the east:

Then, just to put some serious distance between you and those nasty Furnace Golems, continue south and activate the Site of Grace.Rivière des Reclus upstream‘. You are now free to continue your journey.
