We know that Microsoft is already looking towards the future of hardware with new consoles and even a possible laptop. But there have been many other devices planned and patented by Xbox that never made it to market. Perhaps the most relevant was Project Keystone, the console designed for gaming in the cloud.
A project that Phil Spencer himself confirmed, but which never saw the light of day and which we have now learned more about thanks to the discovery of the patents and designs of Windows Central.
Xbox Keystone with Xbox Series-compliant design
As detailed on their website, Microsoft had in mind to launch the product between 99 and 129 dollars, but they were unable to adapt the price to the technical requirements, which ended up tipping the scales in favor of its cancellation. An Xbox designed exclusively for playing on xCloud this would have a Striking square shape with a large circle at the top. A design very similar to the Xbox Series S, but smaller and thinner.
Furthermore, It would have the power button and a USB-A port on the front, while in The rear part would have the classic ports: Ethernet, power and HDMI. The button to pair the controls and headphones would be on the right side. This patent was presented in June 2022, month in which the first official details of the console were announced by Microsoft.
Of course, it’s worth noting that this idea for Xbox Keystone is somewhat outdated, since if Microsoft returned to the idea of a console focused solely on cloud gaming, it would be very different.
