Beyond Good & Evil has just made a splash with its latest game. Despite high expectations, people don’t seem to be really interested in the license. That’s not very reassuring for the next installment in the series.
This is Ubisoft’s Arlesian franchise, which was even stronger than Duke Nukem in its day, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was missing for far too long. Oh, we’re always told that everything is going well, that development is progressing and that everything is promising, but it’s still hard not to worry. Skull and Bones is a good example of a Ubisoft game that was left in the pot too simmering. The result unfortunately doesn’t live up to expectations, although not everything can be thrown away. The specter of a failed launch for Beyond Good & Evil 2 lurks nearby, and if we thought the license would sell on its own, the recent remaster has proven us wrong…
“Beyond Good & Evil” doesn’t really attract the audience
A cold shower is the result of the performance Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Editionthe remaster of the first work, freshly released on consoles and PC. If the overall data is still missing, a trend is emerging on Steam, and it is not a very good one. Given the excitement and crazy expectations surrounding the second installment of the license, Ubisoft, like many of us, said to itself that this franchise had something in its bag. And it seems that, unfortunately, in the end, it is not so much the case.
Despite only recently launching on Steam, Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition is hardly impressive. According to SteamCharts, the maximum number of concurrent players reached is only 584, which is clearly not great for a new release, especially for a license that is likely to be very popular and whose second episode seems to be highly anticipated.
Does it smell bad for the future?
Beyond Good & Evil 2 could not provide enough nostalgic impulses to make players buy this remaster. We will still hesitate by pointing out that we do not have the figures on the other supports, this only gives us an idea of the reception of the game. The latter, however, is sold at an attractive price, 19.99 $, and has received rather positive feedback on steam (for 223 reviews). Enough to seduce, but nothing works.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Beyond Good & Evil 2. Ubisoft must be sweating though, because at first glance the enthusiasm for its license is not as great as expected. Not to mention that the game cost an arm and a leg and development is still not finished. Expectations are therefore very high and we hope that we will have a very nice surprise when it is released. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
