It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news about the Metal Gear Solid movie, but the film’s producers have assured everyone that it’s still in the works.

Hideo Kojima, the producer of the Metal Gear Solid movies, is a big movie buff, so it always felt like this movie was inevitable. The adaptation has been in the works for over a decade, but it started around 2014 when Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island, was attached to direct, and Oscar Isaac, the actor of Star Wars, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Moon Knight, is currently set to star in Metal Gear Solid: Snake. For nearly two years, there has been no news about the film, and the last comment came from Isaac, when he noted that the crew wanted the film to happen, but he raised questions like “What’s the script? What’s the story? What are the effects?”

According to producer Avi Arad, these questions are still being asked. In a recent interview via Brian Crecente’s newsletter Game, Arad provided a brief update, saying “We are further refining the script, but we can’t talk about it yet. I think everyone is going to be very excited and surprised.”

When asked if he considers Metal Gear Solid to be the pinnacle of his work with video game adaptations (he also made the Uncharted movie and is working on upcoming Borderlands and Zelda films), Arad responded, “I never think of it that way. I just want to make the best movie I can, you know? I think it would obviously be great to make Metal Gear Solid well, because I think it’s more thought-provoking than some of the other adaptations. Personally, I hope it’s great.”

There have been rumors that Isaac has left the Metal Gear Solid movie, but nothing has been official yet. Now we can only wait and see if it comes out before Hideo Kojima’s new action spy game Physint.
