Fire ring Creators Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin seem to be hinting that a film (or TV series) based on the open-world fantasy RPG is in the works—or at least they’re trying to bring one about, according to recent comments from the two Nebula Award winners.
In a recent interview with The guard, Fire ring Hidetaka Miyazaki, director and president of FromSoftware, said: “I see no reason to offer any other interpretation or adaptation of Fire ringfor example, a movie.” He noted that FromSoftware does not have “the knowledge or the ability to produce something in another medium” and would have to rely on a “very strong partner” to make it possible.
“We would need to build a lot of trust and consensus on whatever we want to achieve, but the interest is definitely there,” Miyazaki concluded.
A few days after the publication of the interview Fire ring Co-creator of the tradition, George RR Martin wrote cheekily on his blog“Oh, and to the rumors you may have heard about a feature film or TV series based on Fire ring… I have nothing to say. Not a word, no, nothing, I know nothing, you’ve never heard a peep from me, mom, mom, mom. What kind of rumor?”
Fire ring Publisher Bandai Namco has been hinting at an expansion of the game universe for two years and describes the game as the beginning of a new franchise. FromSoft and Bandai Namco announced in 2022 that Fire ring had sold 12 million units in its first month, the companies said: “Please look forward to more of Elden Ring as IP […]) in the hope of expanding beyond the gaming space.”
“We have put a lot of effort into Fire ring to exceed the expectations of our fans worldwide,” said Yasuo Miyakawa, President and CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment, in the announcement. “With a similar goal, we will continue our efforts to bring the brand beyond the game itself into everyone’s daily life.”
Other games from FromSoftware, including Dark Souls, Blood transfusedAnd Sekiro: Shadows Die Twicehave been adapted for other entertainment media, primarily in the form of manga and comic books that expand on the story of each title. Fire ring was also adapted as a mangabut as a comedy featuring a clueless Tarnished named Aseo who struggles pathetically to become Elden Lord. Probably any bigger budget adaptation of Fire ring would take a more serious approach.
While neither FromSoftware nor Bandai Namco have officially announced a film or TV adaptation of Fire ringit seems that the makers of the game are on board. Such a project would give Martin another opportunity to not finish The Winds of Winterand give FromSoftware a much larger presence outside of games.
But what would an adaptation of Fire ring look like at all? Probably not a direct adaptation of the events of the game, but an extended version of the lore that leads to the setting of Fire ring. Before the playable part of this universe exists a sprawling medieval fantasy political drama that features complex family and romantic relationships, political power struggles and just one tiny a bit of incest. This is not only a tried and tested recipe for Martin, a prequel that continues the lore of Fire ring would certainly help its over 25 million players understand what the hell is going on.
