Fire Knight Queelign is an NPC you encounter in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. He is one of the most aggressive NPC characters you encounter in the Shadow Realm, and you will have to fight him at least twice as an NPC invader. Ultimately, he still needs your help to end his suffering and complete his story, so here is everything you need to know about him. how to complete the queelign fire knight quest.
How to complete the Queelign Fire Knight quest
The Queelign Fire Knight quest has three stages, and you will need to find him in three different locations to complete the quest:
First encounter: Belurat, Tower Colony
You will probably first encounter the Fire Knight Queelign as an invading NPC in the upper part of the city. Belurat, Tower ColonyShadow of the Erdtree’s first main legacy dungeon located in the western part of Gravesite Plain.
While it’s not strictly necessary that you encounter him here first (it’s possible, for example, to encounter him first at the Crusade Church if you skip Belurat and go straight to Scadu Altus), we’ve listed your encounters with Fire Knight Queelign in this particular order, as you’re more likely to come to Belurat as part of the main story before arriving in Scadu Altus.
In any case, the order in which you complete the first and second encounters with Fire Knight Queelign doesn’t really matter, as you’ll have to fight him twice before he drops the Prayer Hall Key – an important item you’ll need to access Queelign’s third and final location to complete his questline.
You can find a detailed explanation on how to find the Queelign Fire Knight in our Belurat, Tower Settlement walkthrough, but here’s the route in brief, as well as the exact location where you’ll find him on the map:
- Departure from the Site of Grace’Belurat, Tower Colony‘, head to the fountain area near the entrance.
- Once you’ve dealt with the aggressive shadows, head east up Main Street.
- At the end of the street, head towards the small door on your left and go up the stairs.
- Activate the Grace Site’Small private altar” and continue through the room, going up the stairs on your right.
- At the top of the stairs, wait for the Horned Soldier to pass by, then head right over some collapsed buildings where there is a small group of shadows.
- Continue until you reach a large courtyard with a large tree in the center, and the Fire Knight Queelign will appear as an NPC invader.
Just before the Fire Knight Queelign appears, you will hear his voice say: “Those who are stripped of the Grace of Gold will all meet death. In the embrace of Messmer’s flame.”
He shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for seasoned Elden Ring players, but watch out for his flaming sword attacks. They can be very powerful if you’re caught off guard, and the sword itself has a surprisingly long range. He can also heal himself when his health is low.
In case of defeat, he will fall 6350 runes and the Crusade Badge talisman, which gives us a clue to his next location. He will also end this encounter by saying: “Mark my words, you ungracious pagan. You will not escape Messmer’s flame.“
Second meeting: Church of the Crusade, Scadu Altus
True to his word, you will meet the Fire Knight Queelign a second time in Church of the Crusade at Scadu Altus. Here is the precise location of the church on the map:
To get there, drive northwest from Grace’s Site.Cross of the main road” (which is located just outside the back exit of Ensis Castle after defeating Rellana, Twin Knight of the Moon). You will see the church on the hill as you approach, just before you reach the soldiers’ encampment along the main road towards Shadow Keep.
To spawn the Queelign Fire Knight, you will need to collect the pair of Scadutree Shards from the statue at the end of the church, as shown below:
As you approach the statue, you will hear Queelign’s voice again, repeating the words he spoke to you just before he died the last time: “You will not escape Messmer’s flame.“
Once again, you’ll need to defeat him in combat to progress through Queelign’s quest. His attacks are exactly the same as before, but if you want the added benefit of hitting him from a distance, you can lead him outside and summon Torrent to fight him on horseback if you prefer.
When you defeat him a second time, he will say: “Ahh, how is this possible… Don’t abandon me. Queen Marika, my grace… “
He will also drop the Ashes of War: Skewer of Flames and the Prayer Room Keywhich is again another clue as to where you’ll find it next.
Third Encounter: Shadow Dungeon Prayer Room
As you may have guessed, you’ll need to figure out where to use this mysterious Prayer Hall Key before you can meet Fire Knight Queelign again. Luckily, we have a complete walkthrough on where to use the Prayer Hall Key, and it can be found in the Shadow Dungeon Church DistrictYou will find the exact location of the prayer room on the map below, as well as a summary of the steps to follow to access it:
- Head to the east side of Shadow Keep and enter through the Church Quarter entrance.
- Activate the Grace Site’Entrance to the church district” and jump onto the nearby roof below you.
- Head west to the other side of the roof and jump to the next one using the raised skylight ridges to get a good lift.
- Continue west, watching out for the exploding fire enemies, and head up the collapsed slope leading to the back wall of the dungeon.
- Jump onto the available platform and continue west onto the roof of the largest building ahead of you.
- Face the Fire Knight here, as you’ll need full concentration for the next platforming section.
- Jump onto the large black arch to your left and head up the slope to the top of the roof.
- Drop down through the hole onto the stone arches directly below you.
- Walk to the south side of the arch and jump up to the upper floor of the room.
- Go down to the lower level through the large hole in the floor.
- The prayer room is just around the corner from the flooded room.
Inside, you will find the Fire Knight Queelign writhing on the ground in great pain. He will continue his plea to Marika, saying, “Queen Marika, mother to us all. Grant me your grace. I have met many who would have threatened or afflicted you, and I have quelled each and every one of them. And I hereby swear to never cease. So please, grant me your grace. Leave me my solitary light…”
If you speak to him a second time, he will again implore Queen Marika to “grace” him and “Don’t take away my lonely light…“
He won’t say more at this point, and you’ll have to come back here with a Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation before you can complete Queelign’s quest.
Once you have obtained these items, you will have a choice. Give him the Iris of Grace and Queelign will be able to keep his solitary light, allowing you to receive Fire Knight Queelign as Ash Spirit so you can summon him into battle to continue his quest to protect Marika.
Give him the Iris of Occultation, however, and Queelign will be denied this light, and you will receive Queelign’s Two-Handed Sword as the main reward instead.
Personally, we think Giving Queelign the Iris of Grace is the best optionas it seems more in line with his wishes and storyline, even though he tried to “appease” you as part of it. However, if you really want to go after him and get revenge, feel free to give him the Iris of Cloaking instead and get yourself a new healed weapon in the process.
This is the end of the Fire Knight Queelign questline, allowing you to continue your adventures across the Shadow Realm with your new reward in tow.
