Battlefield 2042’s post-launch content rollout is coming to an end with Season 7, following its bug-riddled, unfulfilled launch in late 2021, which saw three more seasons than anyone expected. However, it is one One final surprise before it’s out in the form of the Dead Space event.
The limited-time event will run from July 9 to 16, and the news is surprising for a number of reasons. First, the ill-fated (but awesome) Dead Space remake launched over a year ago to critical acclaim, but sales don’t seem to be stellar. Second, while Battlefield 2042 is in pretty good shape right now, it’s no longer relevant as the focus is now on the next entry in the military FPS series. Third, Battlefield has never been a fan of flashy crossovers, even with EA-owned IPs. That being said, we’ll take it.

For the most part, the limited-time game mode seems to be reusing the zombie-like enemies originally introduced in BF2042 Season 6, but there is a change, as the new onslaught of enemies the squad will face seems to be closer to the classic, horde-like mode that made several co-op shooters famous more than a decade ago. It’s a good thing to have one last non-mainstream event for this game, I guess.
Any player who participates in the fight against non-zombies will be rewarded with weapon charms, skins, tags, and player backgrounds. Of course, if you want to support the development of more Battlefield (sadly not 2042), you can buy a sexy Dead Space-themed set for 2,200 BFC, which is equivalent to $20 unless I remember it wrong or there is a deal. Considering the extra work DICE has put into this game for longer than anyone expected, as well as the generous free and premium battle passes, loyal players may be willing to spend money as a matter of course, but we still think these skin packs are overpriced.
What’s next for the Dead Space series is… apparently… nothing. A few ideas were floated, but Motive Studio ultimately decided to work on the upcoming Iron Man game and more Battlefield. As for Battlefield, it seems to be expanding against everyone’s expectations, and it’s had its fair share of twists and turns, but the next game isn’t due until late 2025 at the earliest, so it’s been in development for a longer period than usual, which hopefully will help it reach its past heights.
