Former Apple design chief has nothing but words of gratitude for Jobs and the company!
A career full of milestones has earned him Jony Ive a place in the history of Apple and in that of design. But these qualities, not insignificant, are not the only ones that have made it known. Over the years in the company of the bitten apple, Ive was one of Steve Jobs’ closest people, forming a creative duo and a great friendship that he still remembers and honors.
Jony Ive surprised the world by announcing his departure from Apple in 2019, after 30 years with the company to found his own design firm, LoveFrom. At the time, and despite the fact that LoveFrom had Apple as a client, speculation about his decision was immediate.
In a recent interview on the podcast “Life in Seven Songs,” the former Apple design chief discussed his relationship with Jobs, his departure from the company, and other topics of interest.
Jony Ive recalls his friendship with Steve Jobs
Jony Ive responded to what his first meeting with Steve Jobs was like, stating that he remembers him clearly:
What was amazing to me was that I could think and process myself, develop a perspective, an opinion and develop ideas, but I could barely describe them. “He was someone who could, almost without thinking, describe in a simple way very complex feelings and perceptions of ideas and opportunities.”
The mastermind behind some of the company’s most iconic products, such as the iPhone and iPad, He also mentioned the main motivations behind his decision to leave Apple after 30 years.
I mean, it’s a very natural thing, right? That there are chapters, and leaving Apple was, in a way, a terribly difficult thing to do because I loved the company so much. And there are times when, you know, it’s time to move on to the next chapter.”
Taking advantage of the strong relationship he had with Jobs at Apple, Ive was also asked about this:
There is not a day that goes by that I don’t realize his loss. “There is not a day that goes by that I am not grateful for the time we had together and for what I learned and what we discovered.”
Although his time at Apple will always make him a source of interest, The podcast “Life in Seven Songs” fulfilled its mission of learning more about Ive through seven musical themeswith which he demonstrated that his taste is as exquisite as that of design. Here is your selection:
- “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” by The Police.
- “Main Theme/Carter Takes a Train” by Roy Budd.
- “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” by The Temptations.
- “Forget Me Not” by Simple Minds.
- “Defining Dance” by Thomas Newman.
- “40” by U2.
- “It’s the day” by Ivy.
