Capcom has just announced that it is completely abandoning one of its latest games. A hard blow for the few players who still benefited from it.
Capcom is not fair Street Fighter, resident Evil or Monster Hunter. Among the publisher’s very large licenses, there are also a few more modest games that sneak in from time to time. Recently, a multiplayer game was released that could have quenched the thirst of yearning Dino Crisis fans. Unfortunately, the latter has just been completely abandoned by the studio.
Exoprimal, as it was nicknamed, was released in the summer of 2023 with tens of thousands of dinosaurs to decimate in packs of 100. Completely WTF, the game is a real mess on all levels. Its plot takes itself seriously when it simply lacks the means to do so and the concept itself is insane. We are still catapulted into the control of humanized and sexualized mechas for some to face hordes of mutated dinos sent by a ravaged AI that commandeers soldiers.
It’s chaotic, right down to the gameplay going in all directions, and the interface is a horror. But despite that, there was something beautiful about the game. A fun game that found its audience, at least in the beginning, and Capcom decided to abandon it.
After 4 seasons, Exoprimal is no longer entitled to support from its studio. Season 4 is coming soon and it will be the very last. After that, the game will automatically rotate, moving through the different seasons, battle passes and bonuses like a robot. Speaking of bots, they are used to partially refill squads in case you can’t find any more players. Basically, Capcom is abandoning ship and leaving it on artificial respiration until it shuts down on its own. It’s sad, but the publisher is busy with other projects. Monster Hunter Wilds is coming in 2025, a new Resident Evil has been confirmed and a Dead Rising remaster is coming soon.
