It could not be ruled out that a AAA title like Star Wars Outlaws would slip back again, but now Ubisoft has given the all-clear, as the game has reached gold status.
Instead of delaying a game for the umpteenth time, Ubisoft is surprisingly early with Star Wars Outlaws. The title is not due to be released until August 30th, but Ubisoft has already announced that it has gold status. In other words, the game is finished and can go to the press – a full eight weeks before release.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that Ubisoft Massive is now taking it easy. The weeks leading up to the release will continue to be spent on bug fixing and polishing, in order to provide a day-1 patch if necessary and very likely. The fact that Ubisoft is otherwise finished and still has plenty of time is a good sign for the final quality of the game. In contrast to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, for example, which had countless small and large problems at launch, Star Wars Outlaws could now actually be a bit more well-rounded.
We are certainly very excited to see what the makers of The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have come up with for the game. The story and setting sound good at first glance and should keep you busy for 25-30 hours, which is far less than you’re used to from Ubisoft open-world titles. A complete playthrough with all the side activities should take around 50-60 hours.
In the game, you take on the role of Kay Vess, an outlaw in the style of Han Solo and his ilk, with her companion Nix. You fight with different factions and explore different planets. In terms of gameplay, you can expect third-person shooting, but also stealth and even space battles. The experience that Ubisoft Massive gained in developing The Division and its sequel should pay off.
