After a complicated launch, The Last of Us 1 fares much better on PC. While we wait for Part II on this platform, the first opus notably welcomes a brand new game mode that changes everything.
In the remastered version of Part II, PS5 players can enjoy No Return, which brings roguelike gameplay to Naughty Dog’s masterpiece. On PC, this comes in the form of an extremely complete and ambitious mod created by a talented modder for The Last of Us Part I.
A challenging amateur survival mode for The Last of Us Part I on PC
The Last of Us Endure Survival is a mod created by Speclizer for the PC version of Part I. As the name suggests, its creation offers a completely different experience for the first work of the cult franchise Naughty Dog. This is heavily inspired by the No Return mode from Part II, but is almost more complete and still the initiative of a single person.
Under the control of Joel or Ellie, you will therefore be tasked with surviving h ordes of infected or people out to kill you. By carefully exploring your surroundings, you can recover valuable resources to strengthen your equipment and arsenal. In addition to the hordes of enemies you will have to face, various secondary objectives will also require you to make good use of your precious bits and pieces by showing discretion or taking a more direct approach.
How to try out this promising new mode on PC
This mod for The Last of Us Part I is currently in Early Access, but to try it out you’ll need to head over to the site Patreon by Speclizer. However, it is possible to become a member for free, although a financial contribution may be required to enjoy all the benefits. Endure Survival is therefore still in an early stage of development and should appear in the final version in the more or less near future.
An option like any other, waiting for the PC version of The Last of Us Part II, and possibly a for now only hypothetical Part III. Likewise, the second season of the HBO adaptation series is expected in the first half of next year.
