An ambitious Starfield modding project has been “cancelled” following a lengthy post on Reddit outlining the project’s plans a few days ago. The project was intended to create a complete Elder Scrolls-themed planet, recreating worlds from The Elder Scrolls, Oblivion, and Morrowind. However, the project’s poster denied that the project was never officially launched in the first place, as many commenters believed.
Reddit user New-Star-340 published the initial post titled “Project Tamriel” on June 28th, claiming that it was “an ambitious, groundbreaking modding effort to bring all of Tamriel from The Elder Scrolls series to the vast Starfield universe”. They specified that this would be achieved by placing “iconic items, detailed maps, and beloved quests” from Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind on a single planet. Naturally, given how ambitious this goal was, and the magnitude of the effort it would surely require, the post was met with a mixture of excitement and indignation.

iGamesNews subsequently contacted New-Star-340 to learn more about Project Tamriel, and the poster responded that “the project has been cancelled”, which is believed to be the reason why there was no link to the website or Discord server in the initial post, although there was a bracketed space in one section.
“After sharing the initial concept with the community, it became clear that the support we had hoped for was not materializing,” New-Star-340 said of the reasons for the sudden cancellation. “Many fans expressed concerns and said they did not want to see this project come to fruition. As far as the team is concerned, we are a small group of passionate modders who are excited about the possibilities. However, the feedback we received made us realize that the excitement we felt was not shared by the larger community.”
“This turn of events is disappointing to me and the team,” they continued. “We had high hopes and were committed to creating something truly unique within the Starfield universe. While this project will not be going forward, we hope that our experience inspires others in the modding community to pursue their own ambitious ideas.”
“If other teams are interested in continuing our previous work, we would certainly support their efforts. However, for now, my team and I believe that this work is not worth continuing without the necessary support and enthusiasm from the community.
New-Star-340 insisted: “In response to anyone suggesting that this post was trolling or satire, I want to stress that the project is real. We are truly excited to combine these beloved game worlds into one epic experience. However, given the community’s response, we have had to make the difficult decision to cease development.”
iGamesNews pointed out to the poster that their project’s intended name, Project Tamriel, had already been used as the name for a collection of existing mod projects for Morrowind. “We were not aware of the existing mod projects when we started,” New-Star-340 responded, adding: “We thought about changing the name to avoid confusion, but since the project will not be moving forward, it is now a moot point.”
We also reached out to the team behind the existing Morrowind project to get their take on the situation, to which the team responded that they had not officially said anything as of the time of our contact. Understandably, its modders seem more focused on their own modding efforts. “Project Tamriel has two major releases coming soon,” the Morrowind modding team tells us, “Province: Abecean Shores for Cyrodiil, and Markarth Side for Skyrim: Home of the Nords. Abecean Shores will be the first official release for PC, introducing the area around the Anvil as well as the Isle of Stirk. Markarth Side will complete SHOTN’s Kingdom of the Reach, including the first zone questline for Project Tamriel. Additionally, we’ve started world building for Project Hammerfell and High Rock, and developers are working on assets and lore for the Valenwood expansion.”
