The Bleach series is returning with the announcement from Bandai Namco that a new game will continue the original story of the classic series.
Despite the growing popularity of 2D fighting games from classic series like Street Fighter and Tekken, and more recent titles like Guilty Gear, it seems there’s still a place for the good old-school arena fighting game. Later this year we’ll see a brand new Dragon Ball Budokai game, now under the Japanese brand Sparking! Zero, and as Bandai Namco revealed at Anime Expo this weekend, Bleach is getting a new arena fighting game too. Called Bleach: Soul Resurrection, it’s the first new game based on a manga since 2011’s Bleach: Soul Resurrection that’s neither free-to-play nor mobile, so it’s sure to be a big deal for Bleach fans.
“Awaken swords, reverse fate, and engage in thrilling battles with iconic characters from the legendary anime series, including Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, Uryu Ishida, and Yasutora Sado (Chado),” reads the game’s official press release. “In the game, players will be able to unleash unique sword techniques, such as Bankai, and unlock new forms in battle to defeat their opponents. Bandai Namco will reveal more exciting details about the game in the coming months.”

A release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, with the only wording being “coming soon,” but you can buy it on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. This is just the latest development in Bleach’s return, which began in 2022 when the anime Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War returned to adapt the final chapter of the manga. Thousand Year Blood War Part 3 has also been confirmed to be coming to Anime Expo this October, so Bleach fans have a lot to look forward to at the moment.
