What better incentive is there for players to keep the community clean than a reward? Many online video games have a cheater problembut sometimes developers need the help of players to track them down. That is what Escape from Tarkov Developer Battlestate Games offers players in-game currency as a reward for reporting the villains they encounter while playing.

Battlestate Games has done this in the latest Escape from Tarkov Sticky notesexplaining that players will receive compensation in in-game currency for a report that results in the violator being banned. Those who successfully report will receive an in-game message confirming that the person they reported has been banned and will find some in-game currency in their account. The patch notes do not say how much in-game currency players will receive.

As PC Gamer points out that fans have previously suggested that Battlestate Games implement this system, including in places like Reddit, over a year ago. Reactions to the idea were pretty negative, not because the idea was bad, but because some members of the community had little faith in Battlestate Games to implement something that could improve the health of the game. After years of feeling like the studio had failed to address issues players were having with the game, there was little faith that the matter would be handled well. Well, it’s finally happened, so only time will tell if it will actually do anything against cheaters.

Escape from Tarkov has recently run into trouble after Battlestate Games added a new PvE mode to the game that was behind a paywall behind a $250 The outrageous edition. Things got worse when the studio introduced a discounted upgrade path after some people had already paid the full $250, and then just refunded players in the form of an in-game currency voucher. The team continue to fiddle with the bag when it became clear that due to strange logistical issues, if you used the coupon to buy something for $30, the remaining $20 would disappear.
