Cyber Citizen Shockman’s bionic heroes return to take on the city’s new threats
There is something in the saga that traps me. I don’t know if it’s a custom, the good ones feelings that I had while playing the first opus or just pure vice, but Here we are again with these two very special heroes. As with every iteration, the goal is always the same, even if there are variations in its approach and gameplay. This is the opportunity, Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero is a much more affordable, simple and suitable proposition to play in good company. Ready to save the city…again?
Journey into the past
The first thing that catches your eye Cybernetic Citizen Shockman Zero it is that it is about a port of Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman Zero, released in 1997. Instead of launching on PC Engine, the studio decided to launch on Stellaview, the Super Famicom online service which allowed us to play several titles on the platform “in the cloud”. A Pleistocene xCloud that included several games, some of which were lost due to the lack of a physical format that could be preserved. Luckily, Ratalaika Games has recovered this lost opus
Raita and Azuki are still the protagonists of this adventure. This time, they fight evil again with punches and energy shots. Through several phases in the purest style of the adventures of the time, we will have to crush our opponents while avoiding falling into the deadly traps that will invade our path. And as, we will have final enemies and the so-called intermediate bosses it will crash us face at specific moments of the adventure.
Short and long range shots
Fortunately or unfortunately (everyone there), Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero is much more affordable than previous versions. The rivals won’t pose much of a challenge, and even the final enemies will be very entertaining once we learn their attack patterns. While each title in the saga is different from the others, I find a greater differentiation here. A slower pace, more user-friendly and more polished animations which makes it ideal for tackling the saga if you are new to these edges.
Aside from Raita and Azuki’s fists, we’ll have a charged attack that will make us throw a plasma ball from a distance. And while this attack will be very useful and effective, I miss a greater assortment of moves, weapons or combos. From start to finish we will have the same pattern of movements, which means that in the end everything will fall into a constant repetition.
Retro Console Wars in Eastern Style
In the end, out of the three credits they give you to beat Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero, I only spent two and they were due to not knowing the opponent’s attack patterns. If despite this you have problems, Ratalaika implemented the rewinding system that we have already seen in his other works. We even have save points in case we want to postpone our odyssey… although I can tell you that In just under an hour, we’ll be able to see the final credits.
What I say may seem controversial… but visually You can see the technical slowdown between PC Engine and Super Famicom. Although it is the last game in the saga of all those that I have been able to analyze, the limitations of the Nintendo console (or of Stellaview itself, I do not know) are present. The whole thing features simpler modeling, with scenarios that sometimes seem simplistic and are partly reminiscent of the first NES Mega Man.
Conclusion of Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero
Raita and Azuki are back with another adventure that first appeared in Stellaview, the Super Famicom cloud. This generates a series of conditions, such as its graphic level being a little more limited. Despite this, it is a simple but effective action and platform game. It can be played locally in cooperation and unlike other titles in the series, it is very accessible to any type of player. Are you ready to save humanity… again? We already did.
