In the last year we have experienced a revolution in the portable console sector, with the Steam Deck as a reference for computer games and with flagship models such as the ROG Ally. But we must not forget the Android consoles, which are cheaper and also offer a lot of potential thanks to their operating system.

Many manufacturers have chosen to launch a portable console based on Android, but few have been as successful as Ayaneo. Earlier this year, the company introduced the Ayaneo Pocket S, its most advanced console to date, but it didn’t take long for it to introduce a new device that even surpasses it; at least, in some sections.

The Ayaneo Pocket EVO is presented as the first portable Android console with 7-inch OLED screen; In fact, this is the main complaint regarding other models like the aforementioned Pocket S, although the truth is that it is not a bad complaint.

And, judging by the technical characteristics, this panel has the potential to be one of the best used on an Android console, regardless of the brand. The fact that it is an OLED panel is already good news, but perhaps the most interesting is the 120Hz refresh rate; While not all games will be able to take advantage of this, those that can should offer a very smooth experience that’s superior to most Android phones. The 1080p resolution should also be very sharp at just seven inches in size, and of course, it’s touch-sensitive.

In fact, the second published detail of the Ayaneo Pocket EVO that has attracted attention concerns its controls. As usual, we find the usual buttons and levers, clearly inspired by the Xbox controller. What is really curious is in diagonal position of the controlswhich was used to try to improve the ergonomics of the device. The buttons and levers are not arranged vertically, but at a slight angle that is difficult to notice with the naked eye but obvious when you notice it. This should be more noticeable after several hours of play.

Technically, the Ayaneo Pocket EVO should not be much different from the Pocket S. It will be based on the same Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 processorthe most powerful that Qualcomm has offered to handheld console manufacturers so far. This console should therefore be able to run all current Android games, as well as ‘retro’ games, without too much difficulty.

There are still some details to be clarified about the Ayaneo Pocket EVO, including its price and technical aspects like the battery; its release is therefore probably not close yet.
