For artificial intelligence to work, high-powered computing systems are needed. The leader in this segment is NVIDIA, which has been developing specific solutions for this segment for years.
All their competitors are working at their maximum capacity to catch up. One of their biggest competitors is AMD, which is letting everything catch up. They offer very interesting solutions, but of course, none of them are up to the level of the monstrosities of their competitors.
AMD Announces Acquisition of Silo AI
We’ve seen how major chipmakers (Intel and AMD, but also Qualcomm) have adapted to AI. They’ve integrated new cores, called NPUs, so that Microsoft Copilot+ can run on Windows 11.
Silo AI is probably a European company that is completely unknown to you. The idea of this acquisition is to develop end-to-end solutions based on open standards. Note that this company is made up of great scientists and engineers specialized in artificial intelligence.
This acquisition involves acquiring knowledge in areas such as the development of artificial intelligence models, platforms and solutions. It will enable the development of solutions for leading companies covering different markets, such as cloud, embedded computing and terminal computing.
Peter Sarlin, CEO and co-founder of Silo AI, will continue to lead the team. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2024.
It is worth knowing that the company is based in Helsinki, Finland, with operations in Europe and North America. They create solutions for quick and easy integration of AI into their clients’ products, services, and operations. To give you an idea, collaborate with Allianz, Phillips, or Rolls-Royce.
In addition, Silo AI has developed LLM solutions with several leading open source languages. The Nordic languages Poro and Viking stand out.
Vamsi Boppane, Senior Vice President of AMD’s Artificial Intelligence Group, points out that Silo AI has a large pool of experts and extensive experience in developing cutting-edge models and solutions. He also points out that they have developed next-generation LLM solutions based on AMD platforms. This will mean growth for AMD in this segment and will allow progress in development with more agile implementation of solutions.
An experience that Silo AI has achieved thanks to its collaboration with LUMI, the European supercomputer based on 12,000 AMD Instinct MI250X GPUs. Working with this system has allowed them to optimize their LLM models compared to the solutions developed by AMD. This agreement is therefore something logical that will undoubtedly favor the development of both companies.
All solutions will remain open source, which is the hallmark of both companies.
