Warning, spoilers for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree ahead.

I’ve seen this, so now you should, too. There’s an Elden Ring mod out there that replaces Shadow of the Erdtree’s big bad final boss, Promised Consort Radahn, with a giant version of Patches, bearing the weight of FromSoft boss Hidetaka Miyazaki. Because of course there is.

Yes, you may have seen this rather difficult battle completed with a saxophone or a dance mat, but brother, the weeds of Elden Ring DLC weirdness have grown much deeper than those wacky moves. This isn’t the first time someone has decided to take the metalanguage and add Hayao Miyazaki as a character to his own game, but this is probably the most interesting.

Without further ado, here’s the mod. This is “Miyazaki’s Patches – The Spouse” by MRRCrychicQing, and it functions exactly as you’d expect from the name. Gone is the big baddie “The Promised Spouse” that served as the final challenge of the DLC, replaced by a giant version of Patches with the same moveset.

Halfway through the battle, Super Patches gains a sidekick/backpack in the form of Hidetaka Miyazaki himself, doing his best impersonation of Miquela. The legendary developer is even wearing a very snazzy suit, as this mod uses the same model as another title that added Hidetaka Miyazaki to Sekiro as a playable character. This time, though, you have to fight him, which is arguably more in line with FromSoft’s entire ethos.

As you can see in the video above, which comes from someone who apparently needs to have their Windows properly activated, and shows the full two-stage battle of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Promised Spouse Patch, the modder has even done some tasteful editing of the subtitles of the battle dialogue to make it fit this terrifying new reality.

While it’s a nice touch to swap Radahn and Miquella’s names for Patches and Miyazaquella, the first words you hear when you enter the arena are a chef’s kiss that reads “My loyal swordsman. And champion for pre-order DLC.” Additionally, once you’ve whittled a boss’ health bar down to almost nothing, Miyazaquella promises you, “The new game is coming out next month, and there are 22 Elden Ring DLCs to go.”

Finally, the mod swaps out the meteors from the infamous OP attack for some poor basilisks that probably have no idea what’s going on, and it looks like it turns the arena floor into a poisonous swamp just because it can, and in the latter case, to make Miyazaki feel at home.
