Does The Acolyte have a future? Nothing has been decided yet in this regard – as showrunner Leslye Headland reveals in a new interview. It is currently unknown whether the Star Wars series will get a second season.
But Headland already knows where the story would go. And this is where Darth Plagueis and his student Sheev Palpatine could come into play.
What are the chances for season 2 of The Acolyte?
In conversation with Nerdist Leslye Headland makes it clear: A second season for The Acolyte has not yet been given the green light. But at least there are discussions about it:
I can’t say. Well, I can say something about it: I would say that there are discussions about it. And I don’t know when that decision will be made. […]

The Acolyte: Which Star Wars era is the cast of the series passionate about? We asked!
The Acolyte in the crossfire
There is a lot of discussion about The Acolyte. The Star Wars series seems to strike a certain chord with critics. However, if you look at the voices of the community, a different picture emerges: a lot of justified and well-founded criticism is overshadowed by review bombing on a variety of platforms.
For example, it even affects completely different productions that have nothing to do with The Acolyte. Lead actress Amandla Stenberg also talks about being the victim of death threats as a result of the film.
Nevertheless, there is understandable interest in The Acolyte: Disney, for example, sees the viewing figures on its own streaming service as a success. However, it remains to be seen whether these are enough to justify a second season for The Acolyte.
The eighth episode will be released on July 17, 2024, the last episode of The Acolyte for now, which will end Season 1. Headland has already hinted that she has ideas for further seasons – but the first one should still be based on something like a emotional cliffhanger
waive.
Darth Plagueis in season 2 of The Acolyte?
How exactly could things continue? Headland also teased this in an interview with Nerdist. According to her, Darth Plagueis and his student Darth Sidious could play a role. After all, The Acolyte takes place around 100 years before the events of Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.
At this point in the old canon, the Sith Darth Tenebrous – the master of Plagueis – was active. And depending on what The Acolyte still knows about the Sith, who himself Meister
or Move
(Manny Jacinto), reveals, Tenebrous might even make it into the new canon.
In this regard, fans will have to be patient and wait and see what the future holds for The Acolyte.
By the way: At the end of 2024, another Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, is scheduled to launch on Disney Plus. Andor season 2 will follow in 2025. The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in cinemas in 2026. In addition, films are being worked on about Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian.
