The world’s most famous sponge returns this summer with a new movie. However, this time the main character is not Bob. As Netflix states on its official website, More than 25 years after her introduction in the first episode of SpongeBob SquarePants, Sandy Squirrel gets her own movie. An extraordinary character, extraordinary circumstances: our rodent goes with Bob to save Bikini Bottom, nothing more, nothing less.

In fact, the small town, where it is never really quiet, is being removed from the sea by a mysterious company called “BOOTS”, which appears to be a marine biology laboratory. “Sandy and SpongeBob must now embark on an epic journey to Sandy’s home state of Texas and enlist his family to rescue Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs and the rest of the gang before time runs out“we read in the official synopsis.

You can follow the new misadventures of our sponge who lives in a pineapple on the seabed on Netflix this summer. Carolyn Lawrence and Tom Kenny reprise their roles as Sandy and SpongeBob, along with Wanda Sykes, Clancy Brown, Bill Fagerbakke, Mr. Lawrence, Rodger Bumpass, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, Gray DeLisle, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino and Matty Cardarople. Liza Johnson directs the film from a screenplay co-written by SpongeBob series regulars Kaz and Tom Stern.

In the trailer unveiled by the SVOD giant, we see a well-made 3D animation that exposes Bob and Sandy in increasingly absurd situations. Underwater and in the air, the duo must face multiple dangers to get to the heart of BOOTS and find their friends. It is worth noting that the film also features live-action actors who are integrated directly into the 3D universe. “It takes a squirrel to save them” we see in the trailer, while Bob does his usual antics that will surely amuse the youngest. SOS Bikini Bottom: A Mission for Sandy Écureuil will arrive on Saint-Julien Day, August 2nd.
