Amazon’s big Prime Day party is just around the corner! It starts on Tuesday and runs for 48 hours with deals and discounts. So whether this is your first Prime Day rodeo or you’ve already taken advantage of some fantastic discounts, here’s everything you need to know about this big sale
What is Prime Day?
Prime Day is the annual shopping event that makes us dream as much as Black Friday for Apple deals. The first time Prime Day took place was in 2015, when Amazon wanted to celebrate its 20th anniversary in style. The sale was so successful that it has continued and we are happy because the discounts are impressive and many brands take advantage of Prime Day to drop their prices more than they usually would.
Instead of the one-day event like back then, we have a full 48 hours to research deals and decide what we need and what we simply “want.”
When is Prime Day 2024?
In 2024, Prime Day will start at midnight on Tuesday, July 16 and last until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. That’s midnight to midnight, no matter where you are in the world.
Will we have another Prime Day in October?
Amazon has always been very consistent with its sales events, so when it launched the October event a few years ago, we figured it was here to stay. Well, we can’t predict the future with certainty, but Amazon seems to be one to stick to tradition. While we don’t have any official information on an October event, we’re going to assume that yes, we will get a new fall Prime Day event.
Should you join Prime to shop on Prime Day?
Yes and no. Let us explain. As the name suggests, Prime Day was designed as a special sales event to reward Prime members with special prices. So you need to have a subscription to the service ($14.99/£8.99/AUD$6.99 per month or $139/£95/AUD$59 per year). You can also sign up for the 30-day free trial to get Prime Day deals.
However, there are plenty of deals available during the event, even if a Prime membership isn’t required. These will just be straight discounts that everyone can take advantage of. Whether or not your favorite products from Apple and other major brands will fall into this category remains to be seen.
What products do we plan to release?
We expect to see some great discounts on almost all of Apple’s products. Devices like the MacBook Pro and Air and the Apple Watch Series 9 that have been on shelves for a while usually get their best discounts on Prime Day, but even newer devices like the iPad Air and Pro and iPads get some, too, but we’ll have to wait and see for the rest.
Of course, we also expect to see tons of great deals on various Apple accessories you might need for your devices, including Apple Pencils, keyboards, and mice, as well as stands, chargers, and cables from third-party accessory makers like Anker and Logitech.
Are other retailers having sales during Prime Day?
During Prime Day, other retailers will certainly be trying to attract shoppers, including Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. While we’re sure many of the deals will be exclusive to Amazon, many brands will also be offering similar promotions at other stores. You might find yourself getting a product you want for the same price as on Amazon without needing to subscribe to Prime.
