EA has announced plans to split Apex Legends’ Battle Pass in two, meaning there will now be two shorter passes per season. Oh, and they’ll also only be purchasable with real money, not Apex Coins. As you might expect, players aren’t too fond of these proposed changes.
The plan, which is currently set to kick off with Season 22, has been outlined in a blog post. Basically, the gist is that instead of offering a single season battle pass as before, the game will offer two half-season battle passes, one at the start of the season and another that takes over midway through the season.

The biggest sticking point is that this shift is being deployed at the same time as another major one – battle passes will no longer be purchasable using in-game Apex Points, but will instead cost $9.99 each, and you won’t be able to earn them by playing the game.
First of all, while the previous Battle Pass cost 950 Apex Coins (1,000 points cost $9.99), you basically earn these points just by completing each Battle Pass, allowing you to buy the next Battle Pass without having to spend your real-life savings.
Respawn attempted to explain why these and other changes outlined in the post were necessary, writing: “We’ve seen the numbers, and things need to be more tangible and realistic for our global community. Every aspect of these updates makes the Battle Pass more accessible and more worth your time and money. The rewards should always be worth your time in the Outlands, and now that is the case.”

“The decision to convert AC to real money was not an easy one, but it allows us to lower the price of Premium+ for the community,” it added. “The new Premium+ Battle Pass costs $19.99 and offers additional value, despite being 29% cheaper than the discontinued Premium Battle Pass bundle (2,800 AC). What happens if you buy the Battle Pass and then unlock it? Well, you get 1,000 AC.”
Regardless, players have made their feelings clear, with the game’s recent Steam reviews having dropped to “mixed,” the game’s subreddit being filled with people saying that the changes have caused them to uninstall the game, have severely impacted their trust in Respawn to make the right decision regarding Apex, and some even detailing plans for what they believe to be effective protests against the changes.
Well, be against it. Let us know what you think of these planned Battle Pass changes below.
