Mango Protocol’s latest psychotic adventure finally arrives on XBOX. Follow Clem’s orders to explore her mansion, make her happy, and solve the story.
“Bring me beauty” A rag doll wakes up hearing these words. It is a dark basement. The small light coming from the stairs shows a book, which when it gets up is the first object the doll picks up. The first action we do in CLeMLatest project of the Catalans Mango Protocola narrative adventure of puzzles, magic and darkness.
A lot of questions.
At first glance, this is a typical graphic adventure with exploration and collecting, mixing and interacting with objects. Sure, the first chapter is like that, having to find beauty, but what is beauty? And when we find it, what do we have to do with it? The plots are the engine of this game that those who asks us to fill these gaps (like the one with the zipper in our head) which leaves a lonely and very dark mansion.
We soon discover the object of our search and Clem, the girl who asked us to look for her, who is locked in a room and BAM. “Bring me strength”. We wake up at the beginning. Everything is the same, but we have access to some new areas, new powers and each time it’s a little more different. CLeM, the game, does not remain a typical graphic adventure but uses many different types of puzzles. From push boxes to hieroglyphics, rhythm and numerical logic. And despite the great variety, each of them is justified and motivated by the story it wants to tell us.
There is not just one book that tells the story
The difficulty is not very high, We didn’t get stuck on any puzzles, although we did get stuck at one point during exploration.. But one element that always helps is the first one we take: Clem’s book which contains inf ormation about different insects and which we will fill in another section with what we have found, thus recalling the mysteries that remain to be solved. But like puzzles, this is not a simple book of clues or objectives. The book creates the history of the objects we find
We always wake up in the same place, but the rooms we can explore open up little by little. There are shadows that appear, characters that look through the curtains but our exploration is solitary. The house and all its objects, the flies on the dirty dishes in the kitchen, the door sealed with paper and cellophane, All the pieces tell a story that is as magical as it is tragic.. Character design is trademarked Mango Protocol and its psychotic adventureswith simple lines and white skin. The house stands out from the layout of each room to the cut of the map, everything is reminiscent of Teo’s books, although this is an adult and dark Teo, where the days of going to the zoo or visiting Aunt Rosa are far behind. Its simple design hides a lot of depth and environmental narration. And that’s the important point in CLeM, everything tells.
Conclusions
Despite a simple technical part, CLeM does not suffer at any time because offers resources for your problems. Fixes monotonous scrolling by giving a teleportation amulet at the exact moment when this problem is noticeable. Change the mechanics wisely in each chapter so as not to be repetitive. The game detects possible moments of traffic jam and activates the voice of the doll’s head. It is very attractive to play with headphones because Clem’s voices resonate in the doll’s head, not at the level of Senua’s voices, but with great intention.
CLeM is a simple game full of little details that make it special and thatThey note the concern of their creators to tell us a story not only through wordsalthough there is also a lot of text. So much so that it is not necessary to read everything to succeed, but to replay it. I was able to finish the game in just 4 hours, but I still have a few hours to finish it.
