It doesn’t take long for iPhone rumors to spread. It’s one of the most iconic and influential tech gadgets of all time, and everyone wants to know what’s next. The fact that Apple is so secretive only adds to the appeal of iPhone rumors and leaks.
It’s no surprise, then, that rumors, leaks, and information about the iPhone 17 started circulating months before the iPhone 16 was even officially announced. Here’s everything we know so far, but don’t take any of this as reliable information: even when early rumors are accurate, plans can change, and nothing is ever certain until Apple announces it.
iPhone 17: release date
Here’s what we know: The new iPhone lineup is almost always announced in September, usually on a Tuesday in the second week of September, to be precise. So we’re expecting the iPhone 17 lineup to be announced on or around September 9, 2025. Here’s when the newest models will be released:
- iPhone 15: September 12, 2023
- iPhone 14: September 7, 2022
- iPhone 13: September 14, 2021
- IPhone 12: October 13, 2020 (delayed due to Covid)
Traditionally, iPhone pre-orders begin the Friday following the announcement, and phones ship a week later. Occasionally, specific models ship a few weeks later than others due to production issues.
iPhone 17: price
We don’t yet know if the iPhone 17 lineup will cost the same as the iPhone 16 lineup, which hasn’t even been announced at this point. Given that Apple has already increased the price of the Pro Max this year, we expect the iPhone 17 to remain similar in price to the iPhone 15 lineup:
- iPhone 15: $799 / £749
- iPhone 15 Plus: $899/£899
- iPhone 15 Pro: $999/£999
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: $1,199/£1,199
However, some rumors suggest that Apple will launch a new premium model that could have a higher price tag than the iPhone Pro Max. However, we still expect the existing models to retain the same price.
iPhone 17: the colors
We haven’t heard anything about the expected colors for the iPhone 17 lineup yet. The iPhone 16 is expected to launch in seven colors, with white and purple joining blue, pink, yellow, green, and black. Additionally, desert yellow and cement gray are expected, seemingly reminiscent of the classic gold and space gray options.
We haven’t heard any rumors about iPhone 17 colors and likely won’t hear any until the iPhone 16 launches.

iPhone 17: new “Slim” model
It’s been rumored for years that Apple is planning to launch a new model with more premium features above the Pro Max. It looks like it could finally arrive in 2025. Multiple analysts have reported that the existing Plus model will be replaced by a new “Slim” model with a larger display and a much thinner body. Analyst Jeff Pu was the first to report this change, and The Information later reported on the Slim model, stating that it would be a new, even more premium model that would sit above the “Pro Max” in the lineup and would have a centered rear camera and a smaller Dynamic Island.
Apple made a strong comeback into the thinner device market with the launch of the M4 iPad Pro in May. There are also rumors that Apple will launch a thinner Apple Watch and MacBook Pro in the coming months.
iPhone 17: new features announced
All iPhone 17 models are rumored to feature a 24MP front camera and the permanent display should finally be available on non-Pro models. Some speculate that ProMotion will also be available on non-Pro models, since the same LPTO technology that enables the always-on display is what makes ProMotion possible, in Apple’s iPhone implementation. If true, this would be the first time Apple has offered ProMotion on a non-Pro device.
Apple is also reportedly working with Corning on a new anti-reflective and scratch-resistant glass for the iPhone 17 range.
We don’t know much about the chips that will power the iPhone 17 lineup, but thanks to Apple Intelligence’s claims, we can expect each model to have at least 8GB of RAM. The top-end models will get an A19 Pro, while the non-Pro models will get either a variant of the A18 or a somewhat scaled-down version of the A19.
As for wireless, the cellular modem will likely still be supplied by Qualcomm; Apple’s efforts to produce a high-end 5G modem appear to have stalled and likely won’t be ready in time for next year’s iPhone 17 lineup. Wi-Fi 7 support also seems likely.
