Brett Jones, whose influential career spanned from gaming to television to film, has died. Game designer David Doak, who has worked with Jones in the past, broke the news on Xu, calling him “an absolute legend” and later commented that his talent is what helped make GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark so special.
Jones was an artist for developer Rare from 1994 to 2002. For GoldenEye, he worked on character models, animations, backgrounds, UI and more. And for Perfect Dark, he once again helped with visuals and design, as well as voicing the character of Cassandra. But his career outside of gaming was even more impressive, working as a pre-visualization artist for blockbusters such as Fast and Furious 6, Fantastic Beasts and Batman. In addition, he has also done VFX for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the BBC TV series Dr Who.
According to the VGC, it has also raised funds for several charities, including the Teenage Cancer Trust.
In honor of his life and work, the Atkins Gallery in Hinckley, Leicestershire, UK, will host an exhibition of his art. The crowdfunding campaign is currently underway, but the organizer promises that the exhibition will take place “no matter what.” The exhibition will open on November 4th and will run for two weeks, hoping to pay tribute to the art of Brett Jones and the life he lived.
