The Smeg 10-in-1 Countertop Multi-Function Oven goes on sale today.
Retailing for £849.95, you can buy it from the Smeg website, the Smeg flagship store in London, and it will be available from other retailers soon. It has not yet launched in the US.
At this price, this isn’t the kind of appliance you’d buy on impulse. But for some people, it’ll be a perfect buy and a solution to their problems. Smeg envisions potential buyers as singles, renters, and people with small kitchens. If that’s you, here’s why you might want to invest.
Air fryer ovens are revolutionary: they make cooking easier and cheaper. You’ll no longer have to fiddle with confusing multifunction buttons on your built-in oven to set an alarm or heat up a giant cavern just to cook a few fish sticks.
Additionally, an oven doesn’t necessarily have the range to perform all the cooking functions of a countertop appliance, including air frying, steaming and grilling.
But this type of countertop range will be a dominant presence in your kitchen, and at best, they tend to look functional.
Smeg’s 50s retro range includes some of the most aesthetically pleasing appliances and devices on the market. We’ve reviewed its espresso machine, espresso machine, coffee grinder, blender and more. Each appliance is well-designed, useful and will be an aesthetically pleasing addition to your kitchen.
Smeg’s countertop oven is no exception, with its curved shape and glossy finish. At launch, it will be available in cream and black, but we expect other colour options to follow.
Since it’s a 10-in-1 appliance, you might even be able to reduce your countertop clutter if you buy one.
Cooking functions:
- Air frying
- Cook
- Convection (it’s unclear how this setting differs from Air Bake, which is also convection cooking)
- Grilled and gratin
- Bottom cooking (for pizzas and pastries)
- Hot
- Defrost
- Three steam settings: pure, convection (for roasts) and grill
It has a huge 30 litre cooking capacity, making it larger than any of our recommended air fryer ovens.
But its large capacity also has its drawbacks. To begin with, you will need to have a worktop spacious enough to accommodate its dimensions of 50 x 50 x 40 cm.
Second, it won’t be as economical to operate as a smaller air fryer, and since there’s more internal space to heat, it’s unlikely to cook as quickly. But it will be faster and more economical to operate than a full-size oven.
The Smeg countertop oven offers 33 built-in recipes, for meat, fish and vegetable dishes, as well as baked goods and pizzas. You enter the weight of your cooked food and the oven will intelligently adjust the cooking time and temperature for perfect results. You can find more recipes via the My Smeg Assistant digital platform, which you can access via a QR code when you make your purchase.
You can buy the Smeg 10-in-1 Multi-Oven today for £849.95, which comes with an enamelled hob, perforated tray and grill.
