The revolution caused by artificial intelligence is one of the most important that we have experienced in recent years, and practically all companies have begun to integrate some aspect of this technology into their daily activities. One of the companies that has ended up contributing the most to this sector is OpenAI, company known for creating ChatGPT and that now he would negotiate with Broadcom the creation of new fleas which they would use to improve this software.
The high performance required by artificial intelligence is increasingly weighing heavily on large companies dedicated to developing solutions for this type of software, and one of the biggest problems is that many current components do not offer what companies like OpenAI need. The arrival of NVIDIA chips entirely focused on AI has managed to partially solve this problem, but the company that created ChatGPT wants to go further and have its own custom chips.
OpenAI may negotiate with Broadcom to create custom chips
One of the most talked about components lately are AI accelerators, a type of chip specifically focused on offering a design and power that allows us to take full advantage of the functions that artificial intelligence can offer us, both at the user and business level. In general, these types of chips are usually sold in bulk. We can take as an example those developed by NVIDIA, which are general solutions for any company that can afford them.
But OpenAI apparently wants to go further to have its own custom configurations, as they seem to be entering into a series of negotiations with Broadcom for this renowned semiconductor company to manufacture a chip unique to use in ChatGPT. This manufacturer is quite famous, as it offers solutions of all kinds, be it chips created for networks, PCIe controllers, SSDs and many other types of solutions that have led them to gain the trust of many other companies.
It is worth noting that this company is not new in this aspect, and Broadcom helped one of the largest companies in the world to manufacture one of the most successful TPUs currently, that of Google, which obviously uses a large amount of it to offer AI solutions to millions of users around the world. In this regard, it is normal that OpenAI, a company specifically focused on the development of artificial intelligence, wants to establish a business relationship with one of the companies that have enabled the development of this type of chips.
The two companies’ plans for the future of their business relationship seem pretty clear, as the creators of ChatGPT need as much horsepower as possible to power all their creations, while Broadcom can gain even greater fame by helping all AI-related companies develop their own chips.
