We continue bringing you interesting statements for fans of Nintendo and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and its director Masahiro Sakurai. As you may know, Sakurai created a YouTube channel months ago where he uploads videos explaining typical things and tips when developing a video game. Its closure was confirmed some time ago, but it is now that he has acted.

Sakurai’s statements

After debunking the biggest myth about Smash Bros., he also recently confirmed the details about the definitive cessation of his videos, which has led to the belief that he is already working on a new project. However, the creative seems to continue sharing videos on his channel, and the latest one focuses on intros.

Sakurai, in his latest YouTube video, argues that game intros should be fast and excitingimmersing players in the action right away. Using examples from games like Final Fantasy VII, Tales of Phantasia, Ace Attorney, and Kid Icarus: Uprising, Sakurai highlights the importance of starting with a climactic cutscene to quickly grab the player’s attention.

Although some games prefer to develop the history and characters before the action, Sakurai argues that it’s crucial to let players take control early to avoid the frustration of waiting too long. “Players really want to take control and discover more about your game,” he says, “so this isn’t the time to waste.”

Remember that the creative opened his own YouTube channel a few months ago after stopping sharing daily screenshots of the fighting game. Specifically, there are two versions: one in english y another in Japanese. Both channels are called Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games.

It now has more than 582,000 subscribers. What do you think? We’ll read you in the comments.
