A new region and a new controversy for Genshin Impact
These last weeks, Genshin Influence announced its next update with some presentation videos. In the next version of the game miHoYoFans can venture into a brand new region called Natlanwhere the Archon of the element Pyro, MurataShe is worshipped there. Also known as the “Lady of Fire” or “Goddess of War”, Murata was a member of Septemberand directed Natlan. Not much is known about it, but the new update from Genshin Influence could well lift the veil on this character and/or his successor …
While I wait to learn more about it the Archon PyroFans of miHoYo’s gacha game were able to discover more characters in a new presentation video (which you can find above), and a problem that has raged in the community since its inception Genshin has appeared for the umpteenth time. Even the voice actors have enough
In the video published on the official YouTube channel of Genshin Influencemany characters native to the Natlan region are introduced. This new area is said to be inspired by Africa, but all of the characters featured have white skin, as was the case with miHoYo’s introduction Sumerua region inspired by Persia and ancient Egypt, again with characters whose design did not take this context into account. Even then, many players commented on it, and this time Even voice actors from miHoYo Games joined in on social media.
In the Twitter thread above: @timelyharmony_ not only shares a petition to convince miHoYo to improve ethnic representation in its game, but also messages from voice actors who share the community’s opinion, such as Amber May (Dehya in Genshin and Yanqing in Honkai Star Rail), Daniela Kammers (Nilou in Genshin and Arlan in Honkai Star Rail), Allegra Clark (Beidou in Genshin and Acheron in Honkai Star Rail), Sam Slade (Topaz in Honkai Star Rail and Anby in Zenless Zone Zero), Khoi Dao (Albedo in Genshin), Anne-Marie Yatco (Raiden Shogun in Genshin) and many others.
All of these messages lament the lack of representation in a game that claims to “appeal to a global audience,” as explained by Khoi Dao. As we write these words, the petition has ended 80,000 signaturesbut miHoYo has neither communicated about it nor responded to the comments of its voice actors.
