The weekend may have gone by too quickly, but don’t worry! Before the end of the day, take a few minutes to find the Connections response for today, July 21.
If you’ve never played it, Connections challenges you to sort a group of 16 words into four groups where all the words are well… connected. This connection could come from the fact that they share a similar meaning, are part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen, or anything else really!
Although it may seem easy, the connection groups each have a different level of difficulty – yellow being the easiest and purple being the most difficult. For this reason, practice Today’s Login Response This can be quite complicated. You may get one group right away, but another may be a mystery to you. Luckily, we are here to help!
Originally developed at the New York Times’ annual game jam, Connections was released in beta in June 2023. It has since become one of the most popular games featured by the NYTimes, second only to Worlde. Although some connections have been made to the BBC’s Only Connect program…

Connections response for July 21
Without further ado, here is Connections’ response for today:
- Ways to support a candidate – Campaign, solicitation, organization, mobilization.
- Constitution – Composition, Fabric, Makeup, Structure.
- Carpentry tools – Clamp, file, level, saw.
- Mathematical abbreviations – Journal, Max, Mod, Tan.
Today’s connect puzzle has a purple group that is quite difficult if you are trying to group words based on their meaning. However, it was the easiest if you used a different strategy, such as grouping all 3-letter words. My first try was bad because I put Saw instead of Log in the group, an easy problem to solve. The second group I found was the green group based on composition and structure. Once those two groups were eliminated, it was easier to sort the remaining words and find the two remaining groups.
What to play after Connections?
The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you’ve already solved that problem today, the New York Times has other games to offer. As for word-based games, the NYTimes offers Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands, which is still in beta. If you feel like taking a break from words, you can also try Tiles — a pattern-matching game — or Sudoku.
Outside of the NYTimes, there is Semantle, where you have to find the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t matter in Semantle, instead you have to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to plot your way to the answer. If you prefer to stick to the Connections format, however, then it’s worth checking out Puzzgrid. There are hundreds of Connections-style puzzles there, but with only three minutes to solve them.
(You can also just watch Only Connect on BBC iPlayer…)
