Game News We finally know who is behind the mask of Emio, the enigmatic video game for the Nintendo Switch, and one of the fathers of Metroid is in charge!
After the mysterious appearance of Emio on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, the company revealed the true nature of this enigmatic game a few days ago. But what is hidden behind the paper bag is all the more surprising than known!
Down with paper bags
After a mysterious horror teaser has recently shaken the Nintendo sphere, The plumbing company has officially revealed a new upcoming title: Emio – the Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. An announcement that has since brought back old memories for playersIn fact, it is a new work of an almost 30-year-old investigation/horror visual novel saga, which also includes the first two episodes, “Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir” and “Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind,” ported to Nintendo Switch in 2021. And this time we are at the forefront of developing this new original iteration Yoshio Sakamoto, nothing more and nothing less than the designer of the original games, but also director of most titles in the Metroid series.

“This is the first new Famicom Detective Club game in 30 years, so I did everything from the plot to the storyline to the cutscenes and even all the little details” explains Sakamoto, very proud of the return of one of its franchises. “Emio – The Man with the Smile is an urban legend we invented for this game, that of a man who appears in front of crying girls and gives them a paper bag with a smile on it in exchange for their lives“. He justifies this choice of scenario in particular with the mystery surrounding urban legends, which, unlike ghost stories, are rooted in realitywhich leaves more room for doubt.
Memories
Although the title is completely original, The game allows you to find the protagonist of The missing heir – Ayumi Tachibana –who returns as a playable character in parts of the game, as he is came to investigate a case involving a student murdered by Emio. As an assistant private investigator, you are tasked with helping the police solve this crime, which is strongly reminiscent of a series of unsolved cases from 18 years ago. But “Is the serial killer back or is it the work of a copycat?“…
First Nintendo title since Eternal Darkness and Geist on Gamecube to receive an ESRB rating of “M” (Mature), Emio – The man with the smile is expected on August 29th. Suffice it to say, we don’t have to wait long to solve this new case exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
