To change things up a bit from the titles I’ve been playing the last few weeks, which have almost all been puzzle indies or very similar proposals, I wanted a change of scenery and something more focused on action, especially arcade. That led me to search through the list of video games available on PlayStation Plus and that’s when I came across Gungrave GORE

Those who are subscribed to the Sony service, specifically to the Extra level, can access the download of this title at PlayStation StoreIn my case, I had already taken a look at it at some point, knowing that it is a game intended for those who want a good dose of pure actionso I didn’t hesitate for a moment to download it and give it a try.

Without a doubt, it has been one of the best decisions of these last few days because I have thoroughly enjoyed the festival of shootings offered by this work developed by the Iggymob studio and which is actually The third part of a saga that began its journey in the PS2 cataloguebut it wasn’t until a couple of years ago when it returned in style with this installment that leaves us with a frenetic third-person shooter.

I could go into details about the game’s plot or the fact that it has a story mode to catch up on all the events that have taken place to date. However, after spending a good handful of hours at the controls, it has become clear to me that the plot is completely secondary and that it matters very little. Here, the only thing that matters is that the bullets fly everywhere and massacre any enemy in the most brutal way possible.

What I can say is that everything takes place in a cyberpunk world in which you take the role of a gunman who constantly faces criminal gangs that seek to end his life. However, the only thing they will do is taste the bullets one after another, because the protagonist is a very tough guy who is equipped with A pair of pistols with infinite ammo and a giant coffin which is used to beat the crap out of anyone who is even moderately close.

In the early stages it may seem a bit overwhelming the amount of skills and ways our antihero has to make his way, but when you have become accustomed to the gameplay the truth is that results very simple and intuitive. You just have to hold down one of the triggers to keep shooting all the enemies non-stop, in many cases simply eliminating them without further ado, but you can also witness bloodshed and even dismemberments.

The coffin is ideal for hitting the biggest bad guys and is essential if there is one carrying a shield to protect themselves. And these are just a few examples of the different types of enemies that appear, since there are others that throw grenades and poison bombs, so it is not enough to just attack, but you have to learn each other’s patterns well to be clear about the best way to annihilate them.

Beyond these forms of combat, there is also the ability to activate the rage state to do more damage than normal, use a hook to attract enemies and use them as shields and even perform finishers if they are stunned. As if that were not enough, little by little You can improve the character so that he can use ultimate and more devastating abilities than normal, being able to make everything around him fly through the air or take out several enemies in one go.

All this at a mind-blowing pace and with truly brutal chaos, because you practically never stop shooting while the controller vibrates incessantly. In fact, the massage that the DualSense has given my hands is enormous because as I don’t stop shooting left and right, the vibration doesn’t stop either, although I also have to say that I didn’t mind at all because The gameplay is consistently entertaining enough so that you don’t lose the desire to go out shooting anyone who appears on the stage.

About them, note that they are extremely linear, so forget about exploring or finding collectibles. There is none of that here, hence why it is such an arcade title, because the only thing that matters is killing without further pretensions throughout Each phase usually lasts about 10-15 minutes. This is generally appreciated if you are one of those who like to play short games and complete the game in several sessions.

On the other hand, it offers splendid gameplay, because it is not enough to simply shoot and eliminate enemies, since you have to do it with style. Depending on the attacks used and how they are alternated, these end up giving a score at the end of each level, so those who want to obtain the S rank will probably have to dedicate more than one attempt to the different phases, which is not a problem either because any excuse is good enough to continue playing.

That being said, if you love such extreme action games, don’t hesitate to give this one a try. Gungrave G.O.R.E. It may not make you sweat a lot at any time, but it will be easy for you to enjoy making any combo so wild. At least I have to admit that the hours have flown by with one of these jobs, which are always appreciated when they end up in stores from time to time.
