Rockstar is very famous for being behind Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and more. However, Rockstar has released some games that are pretty obscure in comparison. For example, Rockstar Toronto released a game adaptation of The Warriors, a movie released in 1979.
The game was released on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2005, followed by a PlayStation Portable release in 2007. However, you may be surprised to hear that, according to what a former Rockstar Games employee who wished to remain anonymous told Time Extension, the game should have gotten a Game Boy Advance port.
Rockstar Leeds were the ones who originally worked on the Game Boy Advance port of the game, which was supposed to use the same engine as Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne. Not only was the project finished with development, but it was actually ready for release. Unfortunately, the upload was canceled in 2005. There is a copy of this version of the game that exists, but apparently it will never be released because the owner can’t share it.
So why was it cancelled? According to Time Extension sources, during the time the team was working on it, “it was a time when the PSP was gaining momentum and we weren’t really seeing good results on Nintendo. Nintendo didn’t like to promote M-rated games at the time. We were comfortable in the land of Sony, so we chose to do a direct port of The Warriors on the PSP”.
