In WhatsApp Messenger, you can now use a feature for free that other manufacturers charge money for. With Xiaomi, you need a phone costing around 1,499 dollars for this.
Have you ever wondered what you would look like as a superhero or what figure you would cut in an evening dress on the red carpet at the Oscars? WhatsApp can now answer this question for you. Because, as developer Meta has shown in a Blog post As announced, the artificial intelligence Meta AI integrated into the messenger will be expanded to include a function called “Imagine Yourself”.
What’s behind it? With the AI, you can use the messenger to create a portrait photo of yourself in almost any outfit or situation after a short setup – and it’s free of charge. According to Meta, all you need to do is give a simple command like “Create a picture of me in a pink and green retro ski outfit.”
Create portraits of you in any location and with any outfit
The feature is reminiscent of Xiaomi’s “AI Portrait” function. The Chinese manufacturer announced this at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February. It should be available later this year on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, for which Xiaomi is charging 1,499 dollars.
However, there are two differences. The images generated with the Xiaomi phone appear more photorealistic than the photos created by Meta AI, at least according to the PR material. In addition, according to Xiaomi, the data processing takes place entirely on the device. Meta does not provide any information on this, but the creation of the image is probably outsourced to the cloud.
In addition to Meta and Xiaomi, there are other companies that offer a similar feature. The app Remini, for example, has become popular via Instagram and TikTok. However, if you want the images without a watermark, you have to take out a subscription.
The Meta function is currently still in beta and can only be used in the USA for the time being. Meta AI itself is not yet available in WhatsApp in all countries around the world, but only in 22 countries. Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Cameroon have recently joined. Germany could soon follow, however, because as Meta also announced in the blog post, the AI now also speaks German.
