The first installment gets the remake treatment in Halo: Combat Devolved.
Many of us fondly remember the original Xbox Halo, a game that some already consider “retro” due to its age and the console generation in which it was released. But what if Halo was even more retro than it is? Well, a developer called SofaSwordsman has managed to bring the first two levels of the original game to the legendary GameBoy Color in its version called Halo: Combat Devolved.
Yes, it’s one of those retro-style remakes you see on the internet every now and then. The era of the console they are based on varies, but this Halo game takes place on the Nintendo Game Boy Color console.
Unfortunately, this is not a complete game yet: You can only play the first two levels and it’s not on Xbox or anything like that. However, you can play Halo: Combat Devolved in your internet browser or get the file for the Game Boy Color or a modern-retro console like there are many on the market.
We think it looks great and offers a completely different perspective on Halo and what the series could have been if Microsoft and Bungie had made this game a little earlier, and on a portable console. The good news is that the creator is still working on it and his intention is to remake the entire game over time.
