If Google wanted its new phones to be a surprise, we can safely say that it has failed miserably. It’s been months since the biggest changes of this generation were leaked, like the new design and the euro prices of the Pixel 9 range; and with today’s release, absolutely all the technical details are already known.
The leak comes from one of the industry’s regulars, who also revealed the design of the Pixel 9 before anyone else: @OnLeaks, who on this occasion published the promotional material for the Pixel 9 range to 91Mobiles. A material that gathers all the data on the new devices, with no less than 14 images that reveal everything from the technical characteristics to the differences between the devices and what they will include in the box.
Thanks to this leak, we finally have confirmation of one of the most controversial details of the new range: the size of the screens. As expected, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will have the same size, forcing users to Spend more on the new Pixel 9 Pro XL model
Specific, The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have a 6.3-inch display powered by Actua, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch Super Actua display. Finally, the “base” models will not be as small as initially rumored (there was even talk of 6.1 inches), with a configuration similar to that of the iPhone.
The base Pixel 9 will be a noticeable improvement over the base Pixel 8, with a memory boost to be able to run more AI functions locally: now it will have 12GB of RAM
Like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will be identical phones, save for the display. Both will feature a 50MP main camera, accompanied by a 48MP wide-angle and 48MP telephoto camera with optical zoom, as well as a 42MP front-facing camera. Both models will have no less than 16 GBa good step needed to prepare for the future of AI.
Let’s also remember that Google’s new foldable will be part of the main range for the first time; The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have an external Actua screen of the same size, 6.3 inches, with a Super Actua 8 inch interior folding panel. As for the cameras, it will have a 48MP main sensor, accompanied by a 10.5MP wide-angle and a 10.8MP telephoto lens, with 10MP selfie cameras. It will also have 16GB of RAM.
All models in the Pixel 9 lineup will use the Google’s new processor, the Tensor G4 which the promotional material calls a “game changer.” It’s unclear why he says this, since on paper the big step should come with the upcoming Tensor G5 and its new manufacturing process, but regardless, performance improvements are expected over the G3.
Google may be referring to the AI features that will be possible with the Tensor G4 and the larger amount of RAM included in any phone in the range; these models have been “designed for AI” according to the company. And it’s clear that the presentation will focus on these features, which have already been glimpsed in the leaked hardware.
One of the most interesting AI features will be “Pixel Screenshots,” which will be used to “Save information you want to remember later, such as events, locations and more”. We can open Pixel Screenshots at any time to recover the information we have forgotten and seen on our mobile.
This may sound familiar to the reader, as it is very similar to Recall, the controversial Windows 11 feature that captures everything we do on the computer to retrieve it whenever we want; Microsoft had to delay the launch of Recall, planned with the new Copilot+ computers, due to possible privacy implications that I could have had. It is unclear whether Google has taken this into account and has already implemented measures to avoid controversy, or whether it thinks that mobile users will simply be more accepting of the feature.
A new feature that will probably be less controversial will be the Emergency SOS, which will be able to display alerts for nearby events such as fires or floodsin addition to avoiding malware attacks and phishing attempts that reach our mobile.
