Path of Exile launched its new expansion, The Settlers of Kal’guur, and thousands of players flocked to the game over the weekend to try out the new content, equip new characters, and try out new gear. It was a time of celebration for Path of Exile players, but some opinions about the update were still up in the air due to a new threat: tornadoes.
As part of Settlers of Kal’gul, you get to build a town with the assistance of some famous characters. To do this, you’ll need to collect various new resources around Wraeclast, including Bismuth. Each resource has its own characteristics, but Bismuth has a strong connection to elemental forces. This means that the process of harvesting it can cause a deadly reaction – namely a tornado – which will endlessly follow the player until they leave the map.

In Path of Exile, movement is at the heart of the game, but every now and then you’ll need to stop to loot or adjust your inventory. Or, just to stretch out. But these tornadoes always chase you at a pretty fast speed. They can also deal serious damage! One misstep, and you can find yourself being blown away by the wind, so to speak. Some players are also concerned about visibility issues, especially on maps with dark ambient conditions, making it difficult to actually see these tornadoes coming.
This has led to players flocking to Reddit, the hub for complaining about video games. Various threads are filled with comments from like-minded players who are all happy about the new alliance, but a little angry about their experiences dealing with Bismuth’s tornado.
Thankfully, the Grinding Gear Games team has come to the rescue this morning, releasing a hotfix that significantly nerfs the threat of Bismuth Tornadoes. Their attack damage has been reduced by 33%, they are less aggressive, appear less frequently, and can now appear further away, which should give players some breathing room. Whether this addresses the community’s complaints remains to be seen, but it’s a good move.
