Capcom presented the results for a successful quarter, which was mainly due to catalog titles.
The Japanese video game publisher Capcom has announced its quarterly results for the months April to June 2024. Thanks in part to the catalog titles, the company is well on its way to achieving its profit forecast for the fiscal year, as it exceeded its plans in all business areas in the last quarter.
Despite the positive outlook, net sales fell (-32.5%) and operating profit also fell by 46.4% compared to the previous year. This is due, among other things, to the release of Street Fighter 6 last year, it is said.
The areas of arcade operations (stores), amusement equipment (including slot machines) and other areas such as events and eSports have also increased.
Capcom said: “For the three months ended June 30, 2024, sales in Capcom’s core digital content business were focused on the release of existing titles on additional platforms and catalog sales of major titles released in previous fiscal years, as the release timing of new titles will be focused on the second half of the current fiscal year.”
“The resulting sales totaled 9.53 million units, which represented solid progress toward the annual target and was in line with plans, although it represented a decline compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year when Street Fighter 6 was released.”
