You five Eternals fans might be pretty disappointed to hear Kevin Feige’s comments about the sequel.
This might be a bit mean, but I think The Eternals might be one of the most forgettable movies in the MCU. I can’t tell you a single thing that happens in this movie, and despite being a rare Marvel Studios live-action film, it still looks lifeless. It’s clearly another Guardians of the Galaxy movie that catapulted a bunch of lesser-known characters to stardom, but it just doesn’t have the same charm or even an interesting story. To make matters worse, the movie was released in 2021 when COVID was still severely impacting movie theaters, and the movie grossed $402 million on a $236 million budget, which wasn’t a huge success.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently spoke with Inverse about the possibility of a sequel, but it sounds like you shouldn’t expect one. “There are no plans for Eternals 2 at this time,” Feige told Inverse. “There is, I think you may have seen in the trailer that we released recently, an acknowledgment of some of these events. Some giant creatures emerge from the sea.”
Feige is referencing a scene from the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, where Anthony Mackie’s Captain America flies around Tiamut, the giant corpse left behind after the events of The Eternals, a scene that shocked many Marvel fans because no movie or TV show has ever mentioned it since the event took place.
Interestingly, The Eternals also has yet to reveal its post-credits scene, which sets up Kit Harington’s character’s transformation into the Black Knight and introduces Mahershala Ali’s Blade. The film has had a lot of troubles and recently lost its director. It also made the baffling decision to bring Harry Styles into the MCU as Eros, Thanos’ brother. All the pieces are in place for The Eternals to continue to be remembered as a mess.
