There is now just over a month left until Apple unveils its new smartphones for fall 2024. Time is running out and many details about the iPhone 16 launch may have already leaked into the public domain, such as the new colors that buyers of the new devices will be able to choose from. It just depends on which sources you choose to believe.
Back in May, we already covered a report on the subject by prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to Kuo, yellow was set to disappear from the list this year, while white was set to make an appearance. And now, an apparent leak of dummy models seems to corroborate this claim.
On X (formerly Twitter), leaker Sonny Dickson posted a photo of five iPhones. From left to right, they are white, black, blue, green, and pink. Exactly the lineup we were expecting based on Kuo’s report.
It’s one thing to name a color, of course, and another to imagine it. The white, black, and pink finishes are all largely what we’d expect, but the green in particular is a fascinating choice: a rich, lovely oceanic turquoise. The blue, meanwhile, is surprisingly bright and vibrant compared to the iPhone 13’s dark blue-gray, the iPhone 14’s desaturated hazy blue, and the iPhone 15’s ultra-pale, almost white blue. None of these finishes match what we’ve seen in the iPhone lineup in recent years.
Over the years, Apple has proven its loyalty to blue, with variations of the color still part of the offering, even as yellow, green, and even white come and go. But Apple hasn’t yet decided which shade of blue it prefers.
Keep in mind that even this close to launch, the final details of the new iPhones may not be fully hammered out yet – and these are dummy models that could simply show potential colours rather than the final finishes we’ll see in September. However, evidence is mounting that the late 2024 iPhone lineup will look something like this.
