Finally getting the item system back on track was the big goal of Season 4. That’s why it was the first season since the release of Diablo 4 that didn’t have a time-limited theme, but simply fundamentally reworked the loot.
Most people liked the new loot and crafting system – but it also had disadvantages. The new hardening and finishing system allowed legendaries to be optimized so that that they stood out from many unique items
In Season 5, the tide is set to turn again! In a new developer video for Season 5, among other things, that uniques are properly buffed.

Diablo 4: What to expect in Season 5
New and more powerful uniques
As a reminder: Unique items are in the ranking of items actually at the top They are theoretically the most powerful objects you can find and are meant to shape an entire build on their own.
However, they fell a little behind due to the new opportunities for legendary items during Season 4. Now they are being put back at the top – at least in theory. This is how it should work:
- All unique items have been reworked.
- The uniques are meant to be the best choice for the skills they enhance.
- The existing affixes are intended to outperform even hardened affixes.
- The values are random, but the affixes align perfectly with the unique aspect.
- In Season 5, super-unique items will be called mythical unique items and will be colored purple.
What all the revisions will look like in detail will be revealed on August 1st at 10 p.m. together with the patch notes for Season 5. But we already know that there will be additional over 50 new unique and legendary items and which will remain even after the end of Season 5.
These weapons were forged in Hell itself and are said to bring new abilities that reflect this hellish origin.
We already know that Season 5 will be a little shorter this time. Since the first add-on Vessel of Hatred is coming out on October 8th, the season of the Hell Hordes will already be over by then. You can read what awaits you in Vessel of Hatred in the preview linked above. We were able to try out the add-on and the new class for hours!
