The long wait for Squid Game: Season 2 is finally over! After more than three years, the release of the new episodes on Netflix has now been confirmed: December 26, 2024 The deadly games for lots and lots of money go into the next round.
Not only that: In the same breath, Netflix announced the third season and thus the end of Squid Game. Season 3 is scheduled to follow in 2025 and represent the grand finale of the South Korean series.
To celebrate the day, Netflix has also released a new teaser trailer for season 2 of Squid Game. To be fair, it doesn’t give away too much, but it does get the mood going for the release of the new episodes in December:

What is Squid Game Season 2 about?
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reveals a few, but not very surprising, details about the plot of season 2 in an open letter to Squid Game fans:
Seong Gi-hun, who swore revenge at the end of Season 1, returns to take part in the games again. Will he get his revenge? One thing is clear: the front man is no easy opponent this time either. The violent clash between their two worlds will continue in Season 3 – the series finale, which will premiere next year.
Season 2 of Squid Game starts now on December 26, 2026 on Netflix. For the new episodes, these old acquaintances are returning:
- Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun
- Lee Byung-hun as Frontmann Hwang In-Ho
- Wi Ha-Jun als Hwang Jun-Ho
- Gong Yoo als the salesman/man in the suit

What else does the future hold for Squid Game
Squid Game launched on Netflix in 2021 and quickly became a global phenomenon. However, the series creator had little to gain from the financial success. At the time, Hwang Dong-hyuk was not even planning a second season, which is why it took so long to arrive.
In the meantime, Netflix continued to capitalize on the enthusiasm for Squid Game and, among other things, brought a reality show to its own platform. However, the spin-off received little attention due to inhumane conditions
However, there was a lot of criticism during filming.
