We tested the new Scuba S1 Pro, Aiper’s most advanced pool cleaning robot, with power and autonomy for pools up to 200 square meters and functions for floor, wall and waterline plus a weekly automatic program.

This is Aiper’s most advanced and powerful pool cleaning robot, and its appearance reveals it: large, robust, heavy. Its dimensions are 47x44x30 centimeters and its weight reaches 11.7 kilograms. It is not a discreet or lightweight device, transporting it is not a child’s business, but its large battery to get up to 180 minutes of autonomy and clean pools up to 200 square metersand it is worth noting the four brushless motors it uses to pump water and move around the pool. Its new track-type wheels stand out, replacing the conventional wheels of previous models. This gives you much better traction and allows you to easily avoid any obstacle, even stairs. If your pool has a step, you can easily climb it and continues to clean the surface, what it does not do is clean the classic stairs from top to bottom, it can only go up or down them if necessary. The ease with which it climbs the walls of the pool is surprising, and it can even avoid obstacles like the connection to the pool cleaner tube or the light.

It has two PVC rollers, one at the front and one at the back. This is the first robot I’ve seen with this dual roller system.which gives greater cleaning efficiency in a single pass. The suction power of 379 liters per minute is something that very few robots can surpass, even in the same price range. The combination of the double roller, the great power and the large suction mouth means that nothing can resist, not even small stones or toys sucked from my pool.

As if that were not enough, it has a double filtration system: 180 microns for the 5-liter basket and another additional 3-micron filter. The first filter, the one in the basket, is the one that all robots usually have. It allows dirt to remain in the basket, but fine dust can pass through and return to your pool. With the additional 3 micron filter, dust remains in the robot, as well as other small particles, even algae and microorganisms.. To achieve this autonomy of 3 hours of work, a large battery is needed: 7,800 mAh. Recharging is done using the cable and charger included in the box, which has a fairly large “brick” type transformer, and takes about 4 hours to recharge the battery. The robot’s large front LED informs you of the remaining battery life: blue when it is above 50%, yellow between 15 and 50% and red below 15%. Its great autonomy allows it to clean pools up to 20 meters long or 200 square meters. I doubt you have a larger pool at home.

Cleaning modes

The robot has 5 cleaning modes that adapt to your needs at any time:

• Automatic mode: The one I use the most (weekly). The robot starts cleaning the walls and when the battery reaches 50%, it starts cleaning the floor.
• Floor mode: cleans only the bottom of the pool.
• Waterline mode: The robot will climb the wall of your pool and clean the waterline, the area of ​​the pool where dirt accumulates (dust, grease from creams, etc.). It will slide laterally along the waterline for short distances until it cleans your entire pool.
• ECO Mode: This is more of a “weekly” mode where you can leave the robot in the pool for a week and it will clean the bottom of your pool every 48 hours for 45 minutes. Ideal for when you go on a trip or vacation and want your pool to be spotless when you return.
• Walls mode: the robot will only clean the walls of the pool.

It’s almost hypnotic to see how the Scuba S1 Pro moves up and down the walls of your pool as if it were swimming, even more so to see how it moves laterally along the waterline to leave it intact. I haven’t seen any other robot do it this easily, at least not a cordless one.. The navigation system used is different for floor or walls. When cleaning the floor, it follows an “S” pattern, while when cleaning the walls, it is an “N” pattern.

There is no smart navigation like more advanced robot vacuums, it simply makes passes up and down the pool, making sure everything is perfectly clean. Of course, for navigation around your pool It has four infrared sensors, two in the front and two in the backlocated in the corners, which help you detect obstacles. Unlike other models, it does not base its navigation on crashes and reversals, here everything is more controlled.

Control modes

Aiper has chosen this year to equip its robots with a single button to control their functions, which I find much more comfortable than the rotary dial of last year’s models, which is sometimes a bit hard when it comes to turning the robot. The robot’s only button allows you to turn it on and off, or to select the cleaning mode. Of the five modes, only four can be selected from the robot’s physical button, the fifth (wall mode) can only be chosen from the smartphone appbecause yes, this robot has an application for your phone.

Thanks to the robot’s Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, you can control it from your smartphone, but not when it’s underwater, as neither WiFi nor Bluetooth can reach the water. Aiper talks about a “Hydrocomm” communication buoy but it is not yet for sale and there is no information about it. Meanwhile, the usefulness of the application is to know the status of the battery when you charge it, choose the cleaning mode before submerging it in the pool, install firmware updates or know the different cleaning cycles carried out by the robot.
