Sunday usually seems like a relaxing day to us, but if you want to start getting back on track for the week that’s about to begin, get your brain working and work out the Connections response for today, August 4th.

If you’ve never played it, Connections challenges you to sort a group of 16 words into four groups where all the words are well… connected. This connection could come from the fact that they share a similar meaning, are part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen, or anything else really!

Although it may seem easy, the connection groups each have a different level of difficulty – yellow being the easiest and purple being the most difficult. For this reason, practice Today’s Login Response This can be quite complicated. You may get one group right away, but another may be a mystery to you. Luckily, we are here to help!

Originally developed at the New York Times’ annual game jam, Connections was released in beta in June 2023. It has since become one of the most popular games featured by the NYTimes, second only to Worlde. Although some connections have been made to the BBC’s Only Connect program…

Hint for today’s Connections answer

Instead of jumping straight to the answer, let’s start with some clues for today’s Connections riddle:

  • YELLOW – Ways to address a younger person.
  • Green – When you want to do something.
  • Blue – Think about the initial letters.
  • Purple – Different names for the ocean.
  • The Tiger belongs to the Yellow group, the Game to the Green and the Silt to the Blue.

Remember: yellow is the easiest group to find, followed by green and blue, with purple being the hardest set of words to connect.

Connections response for August 4th

Without further ado, here is Connections’ response for today:

  • Kid – Buddy, Champion, Sport, Tiger.
  • Ready to do it – Pleasant, down, ready, willing.
  • Starting with double letters – Aardvark, sinister, llama, vase.
  • Nicknames for the sea, with “The” – Blue, brackish, deep, drinkable.

Every now and then, one of my favorite strategies works when I play Connections. I always read the words out loud to see if the sound could be the reason why four words can be put together. This time, however, it made me realize that today’s puzzle has four words that start with repeating letters. Four of them. This is no coincidence. So, the first group I got was the blue group, followed by the yellow group. The third group was the green group. I took Down and Willing and started from there. In the end, I got all four words from the purple group.

What to play after Connections?

The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you’ve already solved that problem today, the New York Times has other games to offer. As for word-based games, the NYTimes offers Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands, which is still in beta. If you feel like taking a break from words, you can also try Tiles — a pattern-matching game — or Sudoku.

Outside of the NYTimes, there is Semantle, where you have to find the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t matter in Semantle, instead you have to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to plot your way to the answer. If you prefer to stick to the Connections format, however, then it’s worth checking out Puzzgrid. There are hundreds of Connections-style puzzles there, but with only three minutes to solve them.
