It’s time to celebrate, Monster No. 8 fans, as the sequel has been confirmed for a second season.
Last month, it was confirmed that Monster No. 8 would be getting some sort of sequel, but it wasn’t explicitly stated that it would be another season. After all, there are plenty of series these days that are adapted into movies based on specific manga storylines (you can thank Demon Slayer for that). However, it was confirmed yesterday that the rather good Monster No. 8 will be getting a second season, which will arrive sometime in 2025. Yesterday was also a perfect time for the announcement, because in Japanese, the series is being called Kaijüumacr; Hachigüomacr; – “hachi” being the Japanese number eight, meaning the eighth month of the year, August, and “go” (minus the long ō) meaning five, and the date being August 5th.

The 2025 announcement came with an interesting trailer, which you can see above, showing different clips from the anime with filters superimposed on them, as if these were all government records of the different monsters Kafka had to face. In addition to the season 2 announcement, it was also revealed that a movie collection of the first season is also coming, though it’s unclear if it will be released outside of Japan. In addition to this, a special episode called “Hoshina’s Day Off” is in the works that will be screened alongside the collection movie, so hopefully it will make its way to Japan in some way.

If you’re wondering where you can watch season 2, Crunchyroll has announced that it will be available to stream when the series’ sequel airs next year. Other than that, details about the new season are scarce, but I’m sure manga readers will have enough of an idea of what’s to come.
