For my first guess, I chose “BLEAK,” which wasn’t a very good word even though it gave me an “A.” Trying to find more letters, I decided to use “MAGMA” as my second word and with it, I found the beginning of the word. Now, considering what I knew about this word at this point, I was pretty far from the answer. It took me a few tries before I found “MACAW.”

The etymology of today’s Wordle

The word “MACAW” refers to a species of long-tailed American parrot and originated around the 1600s from the Portuguese word “MACAU.” The term actually comes from the Tupi people, who were part of the largest group of indigenous peoples in Brazil before the region was colonized by Portugal. The term “MACAW” comes from a type of palm tree whose fruit these birds could be seen eating.
