Helldivers 2 is considered a difficult, even overwhelming game, but the most surprising thing about it is the fact that it is scalable. Since its release in February Helldivers 2 has a difficulty scale of 1-9, with 9 being the most difficult setting. This was the case until Update “Escalation of Freedom” which was released on August 6th and, as the title suggests, causes a stir with new enemies and a new difficulty.
The gaming week: co-op bug blasting and other new releases
Helldivers 2The latest update to brings difficulty 10 missions to the game, aptly called “Super Helldives.” However, if you’re more of a casual player or are just getting into the game, you may find that the highest difficulty isn’t immediately accessible. That’s because in Helldivers 2
Basically, you need to Work your way up to the highest difficulty by completing a Level 9 Helldive Operation. To get there, you must complete a task on each level below.
To be clear, Operations are a little more peculiar than just individual missions that you drop into. Operations are combined groups of 2-3 missions, depending on the difficulty level you choose. During Operations, you can choose between the 2-3 options and tackle them in any order you like. Completing them all will earn you greater rewards and access to the next higher difficulty level. For example, after completing a Level 5 Operation, you unlock the ability to perform Level 6 Dives and Operations, and so on and so forth.
Ultimately, these operations mostly run through the same series of objectives, but they are made even more ridiculous by the ever-increasing difficulty levels. The difficulty level directly corresponds to the amount and type of enemies you face and how ferocious they are. The difference between the two difficulty levels can affect the spawn rate of Gallen Titans as well as massive, heavily armored creatures like the Impalerwhich are new as of this current update.
Experienced players will definitely want to unlock this new difficulty level, as it contains one of the Helldivers 2The most exciting new features. As part of the Escalation of Freedom update, level 10 missions now offer gigantic Automaton Fortresses, as well as Terminid Fortresses, which function like a large-scale version of the game’s existing outposts. There will be more enemies than ever before, but it will be damn exciting to besiege one of these massive camps on a mission.
Helldivers 2 is no joke even on the most mediocre difficulty settings, especially if you’re not equipped with the right weapons, strategies, and armor. This means that level 10 missions are going to be brutal as hell and should only be reserved for the most experienced players. Otherwise, you’re just setting yourself up for a beating or, well, a disembowelment at the hands of bloodthirsty bugs and robots. So don the heavy armor, throw on some heavy artillery, and give the robots and bugs a hard time in the name of Super Earth.
