With the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, a new generation of gamers will be able to play official versions of some of Capcom’s most popular games. This includes Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which has a variety of advantages, including a small number of original characters.
These include classic Capcom character SonSon (granddaughter of the eponymous character), pirate Ruby Rose, and the beloved humanoid cactus Amingo. These characters had their own fan base during the heyday of Marvel vs Capcom 2, but according to producer Shuhei Matsumoto, their return is not out of the question.

“Yeah, it’s always possible,” Matsumoto said through a translator at Evo 2024. “It’s actually a great opportunity for us because when we release the series, more people will be able to get familiar with these characters that only appear in these fighting series. If enough people are interested in these characters, then who knows? Maybe there’s a chance they’ll appear in Street Fighter VI or another fighting game. That’s another great reason to re-release these old games, it lets people know more about the IP and the series. It creates a bigger pool of content for us.”
So the door is open, which is great, but does that mean you should expect Amingo in the next Street Fighter 6? Maybe it’s worth getting your hopes up a little. Capcom has a history of making these kinds of statements, as do many other companies. Saying “no, unfortunately Amingo is dead for good” doesn’t do anyone any good – neither the fans nor Capcom itself.
Yoshinori Ono once infamously said that if Darkseid fans wanted to see more in the series, they should buy Darkseid: Resurrection in bulk. Darkseid fans obviously did their best, but the series has been completely dead since then (despite Ono’s desire to make a new game). After Darkseid: Resurrection’s poor sales, Capcom fighting game manager Matt Dahlgren told Gamespot when asked if more Darkseid games would be released. “You never know what the future holds.” It’s not a no… but it’s definitely a no.
So Amingo will definitely be back, but people will have to show their love with their voices in real life, on keyboards over the internet, and with their wallets. One thing in our favor is that this series includes multiple games that fighting game fanatics love – including Marvel vs Capcom 2. So if there’s any series that could do a good job of forcing Ruby Rose’s gears to turn internally, it’s this one. Good luck, friends.
