The Xbox Game Pass game has had key content removed before launch.
The Callisto protocol always seemed like an ambitious projectespecially when it was a new development studio creating a new franchise. When the game went on sale in late 2022, The final product did not live up to this ambition. But a new conversation with the game’s lead developer gave us more details on the situation and how it’s evolving.
Glen Schofield, director of The Callisto Protocol, recently spoke about the game’s development and it seems things didn’t go very well with publisher Krafton. Key content removed from the game, including four bosses and two different enemy types. Additionally, it seems that the team has hit a critical period in 2022.
“In October or September of 2021, they said to me, ‘You’re going to have time.’ Put whatever you want in the game.’ So I spent the Christmas holidays designing and brainstorming with some of the guys. And then January came around and some of the guys from Krafton came to me and said, ‘not this, not this, not this.’ That was December of 2022.”
Schofield also said that while the first few years of development went relatively well, Making the game public tested the teams involved in creating the Callisto protocol.
“I really enjoyed working with them the first two years. The worst was really last year. When we went public, there was a lot of pressure on the company, the board, and everyone. And then the Krafton people put pressure on us.”
Ultimately, The Callisto Protocol arrived in late 2022 to good reviews, but nothing like its main inspiration: Dead Space.
